This weekend, the star-studded Venice Film Festival wrapped, and Hollywood A-listers are already onto the next big cinema gathering: The 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. Just a few days in, and acting talent such as Sydney Sweeney, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Angelina Jolie have already swept the Canadian red carpets. A decidedly more low-key affair than Venice, but not without its fashion moments.

Jolie—who is in town to promote her new Alice Winocour-directed film, Couture—attended the premiere this afternoon (September 7) with a sleek outfit in tow. She is, after all, a purveyor of discrete and stealthy-chic looks. It was only natural her premiere look would be just as subtle and elegant. Forget a traditional glitzy gown: The star wore a double-breasted brown trench coat, styling it as a dress by forgoing an under-layer, and playing up the leg slit with a pair of elongated pointed pumps.

There was an effortless and modern feel to the ensemble—and that could be because it is totally reminiscent of the way the Olsens (women in the same sartorial universe as Jolie) tend to approach a splashy red carpet appearance. As designers over at The Row, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are known to always take a more low-key (but always chic) approach to dressing for the step and repeat, and one of their signature moves has been to slip into a long, loosely-tailored evening coat. Just earlier this week, Ashley Olsen even wore her own trench-dress from The Row, buttoned right to the top.

Jolie—a big fan and wearer of The Row’s minimalist designs—has clearly been studying the Olsen twins’s refined approach to outerwear dressing. Plus, given the fact that her new film is centered around the high-fashion world (she plays a horror director who is hired to make a film for a Parisian fashion house), it was only natural that Jolie would take a more elevated approach to its premiere.

With a great (and expensive-looking) double-breasted coat and killer shoe, Angelina Jolie proved you don’t really need much else. The only question is: Do we think her movie wardrobe, designed by costumer Pascaline Chavanne, is just as refined? We will be tuning in to find out.
