Selena Gomez has long been an early adopter and setter of beauty trends. While she was one of the earliest recruits to the celebrity team bob, it’s with her manicures that she and her regular nail artist Tom Bachik pre-empt the season’s hottest styles. Enter: the ‘toasted’ mani.

In the last few months, Gomez has sported a suite of chic nail designs that matched her refined, ladylike personal style: pink mocha nails, soap nails, and even the no-mani mani for her engagement nails. An elegant set only augments the beauty of her six-carat marquise-shaped diamond engagement ring with a pavé band, after all.

For fall, Bachik—the celebrity nail artist often tapped by Jennifer Lopez too—has signaled a new nail trend alert with Gomez’s latest set; a ‘toasted’ nail evokes those cozy autumnal feelings. To achieve the look, Bachik starts with a selection of Tweerzerman tools to shape and buff the nail, tidying up the cuticles and nail bed so that the expanse is clear for a simple coat. For the ‘toasted’ mani, Bachik then used essie’s Special Effect polish in the shade ‘Liquid Sunrise’—it’s a perfect September shade with its golden hour tones, a deep beige infused with pink and green iridescent pearls that create a glowy, satin chrome effect on its own or over another shade. To finish, Bachik added his favored Click Colors top coat from his own brand in ‘Super Clear’ for a clean, luminous end result.
