The Airwrap’s commitment to catering to all hair types is still alive and well with this next-gen model, which comes in two variants—Straight+Wavy and Curly+Coily—complete with six attachments tailored to the needs of those hair types and lengths. Nine styling attachments have been engineered for this device to curl, wave, smooth, straighten, and volumize, though you should note that these are not compatible with any other Dyson devices. Some attachments you already know and love, like the curling barrels which utilize Coanda airflow and the round volumizing brush for a bouncy blowout. Other add-ons are new, like the Airsmooth 2x, which uses velocity airflow to straighten hair, similar to that of Dyson’s Airstrait. The models catered to curly hair types feature a tension comb and diffuser to aptly detangle and define coils with ease.

For even more customization, you can also tailor your machine to your routine through the MyDyson app. “When connected, you can personalize your curl sequence for barrel attachments to suit your styling needs and select your go-to heat and airflow preferences for each attachment,” says Gounden.

And no matter how you style your hair, trust that it will be taken care of with minimal heat involved. Despite being so powerful, this device minimizes heat damage through two glass bead thermistors that “measure air temperature 1,000 times per second and keep it stable no matter the type of use the machine is subjected to,” according to Gounden. Still, you should certainly use heat protectant to be safe!

Our experience with the Dyson Airwrap Coanda 2x

I’ll admit it: Even as a Dyson hair tool devotee, I was a tad skeptical about the need for yet another Airwrap. Oh, how wrong I was. From the very first go, I was floored. For context, my hydrophobic hair typically takes a lifetime (or what feels like one) to dry—yes, even with a bob. Honestly, part of the reason I chopped my hair in the first place was pure protest against the hours spent drying and styling. Though with the speed of the Coanda 2x, I might’ve reconsidered that chop. We’re talking bone-dry strands in under five minutes—something I genuinely didn’t think was possible. The power behind this blowdryer is next level; using it feels like stepping into a luxury car wash, and I mean that in the most affectionate way.

Then there are the attachments—redesigned, rethought, and actually smarter. Most notably, the brush heads. The original round brush’s synthetic bristles used to snag and tangle in my hair, especially during desperate attempts at DIY curtain bangs. The Coanda’s upgraded version features a combo of nylon and soft-tip bristles that glide effortlessly through my thick, wavy texture—no tugging, just bounce. The paddle brush also feels noticeably smoother, delivering a more polished finish with less friction. As for the curling barrels, they still have the iconic dual-direction design we know and love, but now operate at double the speed for faster, longer-lasting styles. Though I haven’t quite mastered the Airsmooth attachment yet—likely because my hair’s too short—I suspect those with mid-to-long lengths will appreciate the sleek, flat-iron-free finish it delivers in seconds.
