After multiple consecutive Samba Summers, we’re heading into the warmer months with something of an empty throne. With the absence of an obvious reigning summer sneaker, several shoes are rushing to fill the power vacuum. The easiest way to accomplish this? Celebrity style—be it organic or conveniently timed pap walks.

When it comes to celebrity sneaker allegiance, there seems to be a staunch division between Team Slim and Team Chunky. Bad Bunny and Jennie are making the bid for ongoing Adidas supremacy in their Ballerinas; Dua Lipa, Rihanna, and Sophie Turner meanwhile, are keen on the sleek black Puma Speedcats. Harry Styles and Jacob Elordi both made the case for designer tennies, Styles in vibrant yellow Prada Collapse Re-nylons, Elordi in blue and white Margiela Sprinters.

On the other hand, some of our favorite street style stars are embracing the bulk. Bella Hadid stepped out in London wearing a pair of Nike Air Max 95s, while Rosé traipsed around New York in black Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO Keiths. But perhaps nobody is more committed than Taraji P. Henson, whose outsized Lanvin lace-ups took the cake.

The sneaker vacuum has also allowed for a return to form for some: Austin Butler, Charli xcx, Robert Pattinson, and Olivia Rodrigo have all turned to tried-and-true Converse Chuck Taylors in recent months. Does it just so happen that we’ve had the answer to our sneaker dilemma all along?

Below, see how celebrities are styling a summer sneaker. Now you must decide: are you Team Slim or Team Chunky?
