Summer style may conjure up images of beachy sarongs and flip-flops—but according to this week’s best dressed stars, dressing for the season doesn’t have to be so on the nose. Instead of leaning into expected summer dresses, stylish A-listers embraced a sense of edginess on the red carpets these past few days—choosing designs that turned heads thanks to their mini hemlines, shimmering metallics, and unexpected embellishments.

At the premiere of the second season of Wednesday in New York, for one, Jenna Ortega went vampy and gothic (but glamour goth!) in a silky black Ann Demeulemeester top and skirt with leather paneling. Julia Garner matched the moody vibe in her sleeveless AO Yes top for a recent Andy Cohen taping, punctuated with ribboned flower appliqués all over it. These pieces may have had more of a fall-winter feel—but the skin-bearing silhouettes instantly created a summery vibe.

The ultra-mini hemlines this week were also warm weather-ready—not to mention that they were just plain ol’ hot on their own accord. Hailey Bieber wore a vintage Gucci mini dress that felt just as fresh and modern today, while Joy Sunday opted for a red paisley Harbison skirt suit. An outfit that makes your legs look a million miles long? You simply can never go wrong with that.

Which were your favorite celebrity looks this week? Vote below, and check back on Friday to see who Vogue readers crowned best dressed.
