Margot Robbie has hit on the perfect high summer hairdo—one for running errands in the fug of L.A., that looks chic and detailed while being minimal effort. A look that could take you from pilates at Form to the farmer’s market. Quite necessary for the actor, who has been spotted both enjoying a Euro summer in Ibiza and Italy, and filming for her forthcoming film, Wuthering Heights.

Photographed Thursday (August 7) in Venice Beach, Robbie stepped out with her mid-length blonde hair in perfectly braided pigtails.

Following the peroxide blonde job and artfully curled ’dos that defined the Barbie movie press tour, the actor and producer has kept her hair a sandy blonde tone, and often, at a shoulder-grazing length. Robbie was early on to the celebrity bob trend, a fan of the midi-bob. Of recent, though, it looks like she’s been growing her hair out, as it’s now sitting chest-length.

Seeing Robbie with her hair in bunches, of course, recalls the hair silhouette of one of her most famous characters—Harley Quinn. Robbie became the first person to portray DC Comics villain Harley Quinn in live-action for the 2016 Suicide Squad film, bringing the complicated character to life with red and blue-dipped pigtails.

Pigtails are a nostalgic, ’90s-esque throwback hairstyle trend that just refuses to go away. From Kaia Gerber to Bella Hadid and Elle Fanning, both the humble and more intricate iterations of a pigtail make for an easy, put-together hairstyle; whether you’re hitting the gym like Gerber, sporting archival street style like Hadid, or the red carpet with silver bow adornments like Fanning. What might seem surprising for something so textbook girlish is that the braided pigtail is an all-rounder—practical, elevated, playful, stylish. It’s a way to keep your hair neat and protected, especially in the hot summer months when hair can get frizzy or tangled and dry in the heat. It’s also easily trussed up with ribbons and hair clips, and you can braid your hair wet—fresh from the sea on vacation—for added texture.

Like Margot Robbie, you’ve got a little bit of time left of summer to enjoy the season’s deceptively hardest working, and youthful style. Don’t overthink it, get plaiting!
