Curious to know what Vogue editors wear to work? Sure there have been cult films and television series set at fashion magazines that depict stilettos and knife-sharp tailoring, but is that reality or just a really great costume designer?
Vogue Editors’ Work Essentials:
To give a bit of actual insight into our office wardrobes, I’ve gathered 13 of my colleagues to share what they’re wearing now. Perhaps you have a very specific image of what a fashion editor would wear to the office, but our workwear uniforms run the gamut. Yes, sometimes there are runway shows that inspire our professional style (we’re perpetually dreaming about The Row’s exacting tailoring), but sometimes we find inspiration from timeless contemporary brands too, especially at labels like Tory Burch and Nour Hammour. Each editor has a very unique point of view when it comes to office style, but there’s one common thread: We like to add a splash of fashuuun in the mix with our polished pieces. “My work outfit always centers around my shoes. Am I heading to lots of appointments? An important meeting? What will help me run around at speed (if needed!) or feel chic and strong! These Khaite boots are my go-to right now as they tick almost all the boxes, best paired with a wide leg pant and fitted jacket or knitwear.”

“Almost all of my office outfits revolve around a button-down shirt. Lately, I’ve been into wearing them backwards to imitate a structured blouse, unfolding the collar to get a high funnel neck. It’s a completely unexpected way to wear a typical workwear silhouette that feels fresh and stylish, without compromising polish. This week I tried it with my red Flore Flore Zoe shirt and a pair of grey trousers inspired by the color combinations in the spring 2026 collections, but it’s great with a crisp white shirt, too!”

“Most of my fall outfits are built around T-shirts and knitwear. I have Leset’s Margo tee in a few colors (navy, white, brown) and small but mighty collection of cashmere sweaters that I rotate throughout the week. When it’s raining, or I’m feeling hurried, Agolde’s petite-friendly Arc jean are a failsafe choice—they sit low and relaxed on the natural waist, don’t drag, and work with both my Bally boat shoes if I need to run out the door and my Khaite Nevada boots when I want to feel more polished. I’m very much a proponent of the outfit repeat—I’d rather rewear (a version of) an outfit that makes me feel good, then have it not feel right and fuss over it all day. Some days I think I’ve found my uniform, other times it’s completely in flux; I’m always trying to bridge the liminal space between what feels fresh and forward-thinking, and also like me. Outerwear always pulls an outfit together (sometimes, it even is the outfit), and my love of it has bloomed since moving to New York nine years ago. Since the weather turned I’ve been wearing my leather jackets from Nour Hammour on repeat, they’re perfect. Accessories are how I like to add personality, lately it’s been my Sophie Bille Brahe pearls, worn nonchalantly with basics, inspired by the way Sophie and her incredibly stylish team wear theirs.”

“My workwear is primarily made up of basics that make it easy to mix and match when I hit snooze too many times on my alarm (as I did this morning). Jeans from Levi’s and Kallmeyer, trousers from Harris Tapper and Banana Republic, T-shirts from Uniqlo, and button-ups from Gap make up the foundation of my wardrobe. While I admittedly keep it pretty simple, I try to add some visual intrigue with my accessories. I contrast a pair of freaky shoes (my Tory Burch monk straps are my current favorites) with classic jewelry—a mixed-metal watch, gold hoop earrings, and a handful of rings. I finish it all off with a spritz of my favorite perfume, DedCool’s Milk.”

“In the last three years I was really a skirt kind of gal but I am back into my trousers era. These Kallmeyer pants are as comfy as pajamas but have a beautiful and elegant drape, and I like to pair them with this Fforme top (mine is Pepto-pink), which is also super comfortable but because of its delicate pleating you automatically look really dressed-up. If it’s not raining I’ll do a Repetto loafer—a classic for a reason—and now that it’s getting a little bit cold an oversized denim jacket gives me all the warmth (and cool attitude) I need. I wear these Hernán Herdez earrings every day, they’re weird enough but not distracting, and I need a bag that I can throw all my essentials in: a book, an umbrella, a hat etc. The vibe is to look professional at work but also not like I am struggling with my clothes when I pick up my daughter at school and walk home at the end of the day.”

“When it comes to office dressing, I tend to stick to a uniform, and that usually involves: My go-to black dress pants from Wrangler, and for the fall, some sort of statement sweater. I have been loving my new cut-out crewneck from Stefan Cooke. For accessories, I usually wear a black Saint Laurent heeled boot, and silver jewelry (lately, a Cody Sanderson ring, that I got at the Santa Fe Indian Market). As for my work bag, I am not a huge schlepper: I prefer a smaller one with just the essentials. I have been carrying a suede shoulder style from Hammitt.”

“For me, more than just the seasons are shifting. I’m eight months pregnant, and entering an entirely new season of life. With these big changes (and an even bigger belly), I’m focusing on comfort first for the office, and beyond. Oversized, statement-making tops that don’t need a lot of fuss, leather jackets, and some autumnal classics, like button-up shirts and turtleneck dresses, have become my go-tos. One of my favorite things to wear during work weeks is a sweater dress with a little sock and loafer—chic and comfortable.”

“My office wardrobe in 2025 is reminiscent of what I used to wear in high school, consisting of a rugby shirt and boat shoes, although more modernized so that it reads less preppy and more cool (or at least I hope it does). I’m all about mixing textures during the colder months, and my favorite fall combos are corduroy and suede. Flat shoes are always a must for me, and my Tory Burch suede sneakers have been my go-to. However, I am also debating adding a pair of boat shoes to my wardrobe, as my favorite shoe brand, Aeyde, has a great pair that might just be worth the investment. So we’ll have to stay tuned for that!”

“I’m no morning person so getting dressed before work is one of my day’s hardest tasks. While inspiration and creative flair are lacking during the wee AM hours, I’ve tried to simplify my office wardrobe with smart staples that can be easily transitioned from one look to the next. A white-button down is essential for me, as is a white jean year round. Both should have a relaxed fit that can be dressed up or down. Same goes for my footwear—few shoes go day to night as well as a kitten heel ankle boot. I’ll pair this with a leather jacket, tote bag, and some accessories. Mixed metals have been my go-to as of late.”

“Not exactly a morning person, I have found that the easiest way to beat the early-hour wardrobe dilemma is by sticking to a uniform that is built around elevated essentials. This fall, my go-to formula leans modern prep: a crisp button-down layered under a blazer or cozy V-neck sweater, paired with classic denim (Mother’s The Reifler jean has been a long time favorite). For accessories, a black ballet flat never misses, and Hunting Season’s black pendant necklace adds some edge. For a work bag, the Balenciaga Rodeo bag has become my daily mainstay—sleek, structured, and surprisingly roomy (yes, it fits a laptop!).”
