Last night, the 2025 Academy Museum Gala brought out a heavy dose of star power. Given the evening was all about raising funds for a museum dedicated to the art of motion pictures, it was only natural that Old Hollywood glamour reigned supreme on the red carpet. But A-listers leaned into a sense of fun and whimsy, too—subverting classic gowns with updates that felt modern and fresh. Take Kaia Gerber, who donned a white lace Givenchy gown by Sarah Burton: The built-in cape and semi-sheer fabrication made it feel youthful and very New Hollywood. Ditto for Tessa Thompsin in her floral embroidered butter-yellow Balenciaga dress.

These romantic, whimsical accents were seen elsewhere, too. In L.A., Sarah Paulson attended the premiere of All’s Fair in a fresh-off-the-runway Bottega Veneta look. That fuzzy multicolored skirt? To die for. In New York, Chloe Sevigny—a fellow Ryan Murphy lead—attended the 2025 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in a silky pink bowed August Barron dress—an outfit so sweet she should have hit the VS runway.

Even the week’s more demure ensembles delivered wow factor. For the Die, My Love premiere in London, Jennifer Lawrence donned a vintage black Armani Privé gown that turned heads, thanks to its plunging neckline. Though, that sculptural gold torque necklace by Glenn Spiro sure helped make it feel movie star-worthy.
