The iconic 1978 movie-musical Grease has more than a stellar soundtrack, of course: It also features some pretty iconic leather-heavy fashions. Why are we referencing this cinematic masterpiece right now? Well, last night in New York City, Hailey Bieber stepped out for dinner wearing an off-duty look that was very much giving modern-day Grease—right down to the oversized moto jacket and sexy mules.
Costume designed by Albert Wolsky, you already know which Grease outfit I am comparing Bieber’s to. At the end of the film, Sandy Olsson (played by the late, great Olivia Newton-John) emerges for the splashy closing number wearing a leather moto jacket, skintight sharkskin pants, and heels. The outfit—both edgy and alluring—has since become an iconic moment in pop culture cinema, and Bieber totally channeled the vibe—in her own modern, stylish way, naturally.

For her take on enduring Grease style, Bieber revolved her going-out look around a boxy moto jacket—one of her signature wardrobe staples. Just like Sandy does, Bieber offset the biker jacket with more feminine pieces, like a pair of heeled mules and some itty-bitty micro shorts that further emphasized the leg. Her classic white tee and black shades, meanwhile, were moreso giving Danny Zuko. Her ensemble is like the perfect fusion of Sandy meets Danny, striking the right chords of tough-yet-sweet.
Even if Grease is not in your top-5 movies of all time, consider replicating Bieber’s outfit as the summer soon transitions to fall. Because a sleek biker jacket like hers works for both seasons, and is a wardrobe investment that will never go out of style. I mean, Grease came out almost five decades ago, and still feels fresh today. You’re the one that I want—ooh, ooh, ooh!
